New Delhi: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has also reached the Supreme Court on the issue of Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). Owaisi has also raised the issue of NRC before the Supreme Court. Owaisi has appealed in the petition filed in the court that the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act should be immediately stopped. Owaisi has demanded from the Supreme Court that CAA has an unholy alliance with NRC. There is a plan to target Indian Muslims through NRC. NRC is coming after CAA.

Owaisi alleged that the evil generated by the CAA is not just one of reducing the grant of citizenship, but also of alienating a minority community by taking selective action against them as a result of denial of citizenship.

After CAA was notified, Owaisi had said that no law can be made on the basis of religion and there are many decisions of the Supreme Court on this. He said, “…It is against the right to equality. You are allowing (citizenship) to people of every religion, but not giving it to people of Islam religion.”

Owaisi claimed that CAA should be seen in conjunction with the National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). He said, “This government is making the rules (of CAA) after four years. I want to tell this to the country. The current Home Minister (Amit Shah) had taken my name in the Parliament and said that NPR will come, NRC will also come. He Said this several times in television interviews.” Owaisi said, “I want to say that do not look only at CAA. You have to look at it along with NPR and NRC. When that happens, then of course the main target will be Muslims, Dalits, tribals and the poor.”

The Center on Monday implemented CAA,2019 and notified its rules. This law provides for granting citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim refugees who came to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan before December 31, 2014.
