The water level of the Bagmati river in Muzaffarpur is expected to rise once again on Sunday due to more rain in Kathmandu, Nepal till Saturday morning. After a long time, the water level of Gandak river is increasing rapidly at Rewa Ghat since morning. At present, the water level of Budhi Gandak has stabilized along with Bagmati.
Due to the stabilization of the water level of Budhi Gandak, the flood affected areas from Sikandarpur to Zero Mile and Kolhua of Kanti have again become troubled. The fear of floods has started haunting them once again. 1.55 lakh cusecs of water has been discharged from Balmiki Nagar Gandak barrage till Saturday afternoon. On Saturday, the water level of the Gandak river continued to rise till evening due to more discharge in the east.
According to the information received from the Water Resources Department, the water level of the Bagmati river is stable at 54.70 meters below the danger mark 55.23 in Katojha and 49.22 meters above the danger mark of 48.68 in Beniabad. The water level of Gandak river is rising at 53.76 below the danger mark of 54.41 at Rewa Ghat. The water level of Budhi Gandak river is stable at 52.03 meters below the danger mark of 52.53 at Sikandarpur in the city.
In Tirhut division, there has been heavy damage to Kharif crops due to more than normal rains and floods, besides damage to fruits and vegetables. Due to this the planting of paddy has been affected. Due to accumulating water in the fields, the soil got rotten. The Agriculture Department had conducted a survey of the affected crops. After this, reports were prepared from six districts. The damage report has been sent to the government.
