Flood victims are still waiting for compensation: Dharmendra Sharma
Derabassi – Dharmendra Sharma, brother of Shiromani Akali Dal candidate NK Sharma from Patiala Lok Sabha constituency, has said that the scars of the destruction of Ghaggar river are still present in dozens of villages of Derabassi. Last year, due to the flood in Ghaggar, people’s animals were killed and many kutcha houses collapsed. Despite this, no one has received compensation till date.
Dharmendra Sharma was campaigning in the villages falling under Panch Grami area in support of his brother. He said that hundreds of acres of land were turned into sand dunes. Even after a year, the Aam Aadmi Party government did not solve their problem. Not only this, no effort has been made towards cleaning the Ghaggar river and building a dam. He said that now the rainy season is about to come again and the people here have already started worrying.
Due to the government’s negligence, the people here may have to face major devastation. During the flood time, AAP leaders went here and got only photo shoots done. Today when he goes to the villages in that area, people are waiting for the representatives of the AAP government. The MLA should tell who will give compensation to the people destroyed by the floods.
Many dignitaries including Akali leaders Rajinder Singh Issapur, Taranbir Singh Poonia, Dalbir Singh Chadiyala, Simpu Amlala were present on this occasion.
