An encounter is going on between security forces and terrorists at two places in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, one soldier martyred
Jammu-Kashmir: Security forces are continuously taking action as part of the anti-terrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, an encounter between terrorists and security forces is going on since Saturday (July 6) morning in Kulgam, South Kashmir. 4-5 terrorists are feared to be trapped at two different places in Kulgam where the encounter is going on.
Joint forces including Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF are engaged in carrying out this operation. One soldier was martyred in this encounter.
Jammu and Kashmir Police said that security forces were conducting a cordon and search operation after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in Modergam village of South Kashmir district. A police officer said that during this time the terrorists opened fire on the security personnel, after which the search operation turned into an encounter.
According to the police, the terrorist is hiding in a house located in a dense apple orchard. An army jawan was seriously injured in the firing by him, after which he was taken to the hospital, where he died. Soon after this, Jammu and Kashmir Police confirmed the encounter in Chingam area of Frisal village of Kulgam and said that contact has been established with the hidden terrorists.
There is no news of any terrorist being killed in this encounter so far. The operation to catch the terrorists by the security personnel is still going on. Security has been increased in the entire district to ensure that anti-social elements do not take advantage of these two encounters and commit any incident.
This encounter is happening at a time when the Amarnath Yatra is going on. It started on June 29 from the base camps of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district. A new batch of more than 5,800 pilgrims has arrived in the morning for this 52-day long yatra. The place where the encounter is taking place is 63 km from one of the twin tracks in Pahalgam. The group of pilgrims visiting the Amarnath cave temple travels through this route. Usually they go through this route. However, the central government has made extensive security arrangements for the pilgrimage.
