7 Including 3 Children Charred To Death After Fire Breaks Out In Chembur’s Sidharth Colony
Mumbai: A devastating fire early morning in the Chembur area claimed the lives of seven members of a single family, including three innocent children. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire, which spread rapidly, was caused by a short circuit in the electrical wiring, leaving the family members with no chance to escape.
The fire, which originated in a shop on the ground floor, quickly spread to the house above where the entire family resided. The BMC officials reported that the ground floor was being used for commercial purposes while the upper floors were residential. The fire, which started from electrical wires and other appliances, subsequently engulfed other parts of the house.
Fire brigade officials were informed about the fire at around 5:20 am. Fire engines were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. They reported that the fire started in the shop located on the lower floor of the building and spread to the upper floor, trapping the family asleep upstairs.
Although the fire was eventually brought under control, it had already severely injured the family members. The victims were immediately rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, where doctors declared them dead. The deceased include: Geetadevi Gupta (60 years), Anita Gupta (39 years), Prem Gupta (30 years), Manju Prem Gupta (30 years), Vidhi Gupta (15 years), Narendra Gupta (10 years), and Presi Gupta (6 years). The police are now investigating the causes of this tragic incident.
According to locals, the fire broke out around 4 am. To control the fire, people from the neighborhood first broke the adjacent roof and then entered the house. Although the fire was brought under control within an hour, there was significant loss of life and property. The fire spread rapidly due to a short circuit in the electrical wiring, leaving no time for people to escape. DCP Hemraj Rajput, along with fire department officials, also inspected the site. Locals reported that there was no chance for anyone to understand the situation. Due to the slum area, there was no exit route. The family was trapped upstairs.
This incident has come as a major shock to the people living in the Chembur area, and everyone has expressed their condolences to the bereaved family .
