Playing with health: Fruit cakes being made with rotten eggs in Ludhiana factory, health department raids

On Tuesday, the Health Department raided a fruit cake manufacturing factory located on Tibba Road in Ludhiana. Fruit cakes were being made in the factory using rotten eggs.

The festive season has begun. In such a situation, shopkeepers and confectioners dealing in sweets are busy preparing sweets in bulk. In many places, people’s health is not being taken care of at all. In such a situation, the health department has also swung into action and raids are being conducted at sweet shops, factories and other such places.

The health department raided a fruit cake manufacturing factory located on Tibba Road in Ludhiana on Tuesday. Fruit cakes were being prepared in the factory. The team had received information that food products were being prepared in the factory without a food license. The health department team raided a factory named Nagina Bakery on Tuesday. During this, the officers were also shocked to see the filth inside the factory. There was filth spread all around in the factory and there was a foul smell coming from inside. Bad and rotten eggs were being used to make fruit cakes.

Factory owner Noorul Islam said that he buys broken eggs at a cheap price and makes fruit cakes from them and supplies them to bakeries and grocery stores. He had broken the eggs and stored the liquid inside them in drums. The health department team inspected the material used to make the fruit cake and collected samples of the prepared fruit cake, bread and broken eggs and sent them for testing. Also, about 4 quintals of broken eggs stored in drums and about 50 boxes of prepared fruit cake were destroyed on the spot. District Health Officer Dr. Amarjit Kaur said that the factory owner did not even have a food license on the spot. He has been challaned for unhygienic conditions and action will be taken against the factory owner as per rules after the test report of the fruit cake, bread and egg samples sent to the lab arrives.
