Uttarakhand Government Advances Panchayati Raj Reforms: ₹20 Lakh Grant for Panchayat Buildings, Internet Connectivity, and Women Empowerment Discussed in Key Review Meeting

A key departmental review meeting was held today at the Panchayati Raj Directorate in Dehradun, where significant topics regarding the development and progress of Panchayats in Uttarakhand were discussed in detail. The meeting focused on the effective utilization of funds from the 15th Finance Commission, as well as a major initiative to enhance Panchayat infrastructure and services across the state.

One of the central points of the discussion was the process to increase the grant for the construction of Panchayat buildings from ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh. This increased funding aims to improve the physical infrastructure of Panchayats, thereby enabling better service delivery to local communities. Additionally, the meeting focused on the progress of the transfer of 29 subjects to Panchayats, a critical step in decentralizing governance and empowering local bodies.

A notable instruction was given to the concerned authorities to ensure that Panchayat buildings are equipped with internet connectivity. This initiative is aimed at bridging the digital divide and ensuring uninterrupted access to online services for villagers, promoting digital inclusion and access to government schemes.

In line with the goal of strengthening local governance, instructions were also provided to honor outstanding Gram Panchayats for their exemplary work. The government further emphasized organizing exposure visits for women from self-help groups to inspire and empower them by sharing best practices and encouraging leadership within the community.

The meeting underlined the state government’s continued commitment to strengthening the Panchayati Raj system, ensuring that local governance becomes more efficient and responsive to the needs of rural communities. The efforts being made reflect the ongoing push to provide better services, opportunities, and resources to every corner of Uttarakhand.
