Dehradun, Uttarakhand – Although claims have always been made to improve the derailed education system in Uttarakhand, the situation is worsening instead of improving. According to a report of the department, government schools of the state are continuously becoming studentless. The situation is that 1,671 government schools are locked, while another 3573 are on the verge of closure.
The surprising thing is that there are 102 schools in which only one student is studying in each school. The new educational session is starting in the state from April 1, 2024, but before the start of this session, many schools in the state are locked. The Directorate General of Education had recently sought reports from all the Chief Education Officers of the state on schools that have been closed in the districts.
According to reports received from the districts, government schools are continuously closing due to lack of students. According to the report, the number of students in 3,573 schools has dropped to 10 or less. In this, maximum 785 schools are from Pauri district, while the least three schools are from Haridwar district.
Maximum 315 schools closed in Pauri district
Pauri is the only district in the state in which the maximum number of 315 schools have been closed, while Udham Singh Nagar district has the least number of 21 schools closed. 1,671 schools across the state have been closed due to lack of students.
Locked in so many government schools
In the state, 197 in Almora district, 53 in Bageshwar, 133 in Chamoli, 55 in Champawat, 124 in Dehradun, 24 in Haridwar, 82 in Nainital, 315 in Pauri, 224 in Pithoragarh, 53 in Rudraprayag, 268 in Tehri Garhwal, 268 in Udham Singh Nagar. 21 schools in Uttar Pradesh and 122 schools in Uttarkashi district are locked.
Reports of closed government schools were sought from all the districts of the state. The closed schools will be used as Anganwadi centres, home stays, ANM centers and Panchayat houses.
