Chandigarh: A delegation of BJP councillors and leaders led by Chandigarh BJP President Jatinder Pal Malhotra today met UT Adviser Rajeev Verma requesting him to put on hold auction notice of leasing of 33 acres of agriculture land on June 21 by the Municipal Corporation.
They said the agenda regarding leasing of 33 acres of agriculture land was passed on June 11 by the MC, which is ruled by AAP and Congress, and in no time the open auction has been called on June 21. “A bare perusal of the events clarifies beyond doubt that there is some hidder agenda of the certain people vested interests,” said BJP councillors.
“The councillors have raised legal issue in the matter i.e. the minutes of the meeting are yet to be approved, but still in violation of laws the AAP-headed MC is going ahead with leasing of land. Although, some officials say that the Municipal Commissioner can proceed in the absence of approval of minutes, but the issue is that why there is tearing hurry. The thing is that the land valuing hundreds of crores is being dealt by the AAP-Congress in an abnormal hurry,” said the BJP councillors in a written representation submitted to the Adviser.
“The present agenda, which has been passed regarding leasing of land, should be put on hold, suggestions/objections should be called from all councilors and even general public and thereafter a proper decision should be taken in the larger interest of the public. The Administration should not allow the AAP-Congress led MC to act in an arbitrary manner by putting the land of MC at risk. The situation is not urgent but emergent as the auction notice of June 21 need to be put on hold at this moment,” they requested.
Party president Malhotra, said, “It is illegal to give away Rs 1800 cr worth land like this. Also, they are going to splurge more than Rs 7 crore on the revamp of cremation ground, sector 25, which is a wastage of public money. Various persons and NGOs are ready to cary out this work voluntarily. Road gullies are not cleaned, parks are not well maintained and they are up to wasting public money. These issues have exposed the AAP-Congress.”
Other than the president, councillors and party leaders Kuljeet Sandhu (senior deputy mayor), Anup Gupta, Harjeet Singh, Rajinder Sharma (deputy mayor), Lakhvir Singh Billu, Kanwarjeet Singh Rana, Saurabh Joshi, Jasmanpreet Singh, Babbar, Naresh Panchal, Mohinder Kaur, Geeta Chauhan, Jagtar Singh Jagga, Devinder Babla, Umesh Ghai, Manoj Sonkar and Satinder Sidhu were present on the occasion.
