Chandigarh: The Punjab government has dismissed reports that Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s associate Honeypreet was in the custody of the Punjab Police or the state government had given him protection. Haryana Police arrested 36-year-old Honeypreet who thought to be in connection with the violence after being convicted of Ram Rahim on 25 August from Zirakpur-Patiala Road. A spokesman of the Punjab Government said that the state is not involved in this matter and Punjab has assisted Haryana Police in providing intelligence and other relevant information only.
The spokesman dismissed reports on social media which alleged that Honeypreet was in the custody of the Punjab Police before the arrest. The spokesman said that there is no question of taking the custody of Honeypreet by Punjab Police as there is no case registered against him in the state and neither is he in any desired list.
The spokesman said that the Punjab government, especially the police and intelligence, was providing information only to the neighboring state in the interest of justice and to maintain law and order in the area. Since the crisis in Dera Crisis, the Punjab Police is sharing information about the activities of followers of Ram Rahim. Ram Rahim has been convicted of rape.
The spokesman said that the Punjab government has not tried to save Honeypreet. There are cases registered in Haryana against him and he has been declared as ‘wanted criminal’.
