Chandigarh, India. Recently, the Estate Office sealed some houses in Sector-25, against which anger erupted on Friday. People reached the square of Sector-25 around 8 am and blocked the road. The protesters started raising slogans against the Estate Office. After a while, they sat on the road itself. People alleged that hundreds of people in Sector-25 were being deliberately harassed by the Estate Office. Notices are being sent to those who are depositing the installments from time to time.
Sandeep, a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party involved in the protest, said that notices have been sent to about 150 people in Sector-25 towards the Estate Office. The Estate Office has also sealed some houses. People did this demonstration only to oppose this action of the Estate Office. He told that after the demonstration he also met DC Vinay Pratap Singh and gave him a memorandum of demands. It has been demanded that the people living in those houses should not be disturbed. All the notices that have been issued so far should be canceled and a new policy regarding houses should be made. Sandeep told that as per the demand, the DC has directed to cancel all the notices. A special camp will be organized in Sector-25 in the month of June, in which people will be able to deposit their rent etc. on the spot. Along with this, a policy will also be made regarding the houses.
House of anyone is the basic requirement of any individual. It is a delicate issue and the emotions of many are rooted in their homes. The administration should talk to people and let them aware of any illegal things before probing into any on-ground action. Housing is a matter of basic need and should not be politicalized.
