Fiery summer nights in Punjab- unexpected cuts witnessed!

Punjab – The situation in the state of Punjab has become worse for the electricity consumers . Lately, the state has been experiencing unexpected power cuts that too for long hours . Despite of the 20,000 crore fixed charges given by the Punjab Government to three private thermal plants ,  many unexpected cuts have been witnessed by the residence of the state . 

The problem is faced by not only the rural residence but as well as the urban areas . Where as a protest was held by the farmers of Malwa against the lack of electricity irrigate fields, cities like Patiala, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Bathinda, Mohali and Jalandhar faced several unscheduled cuts today.

The maximum power demand of the state this year has heightened to 14,225 MW where the PSPCL has only been able yo provide 12,800 MW. The average shortage has been recorded as 725 MW. 

All-India Power Engineers Federation spokesperson VK Gupta said “Under the present circumstances, Punjab can supply around 12,800 MW. The supply touched 13,000 MW for a short period on Tuesday”. Accord to him the amount paid to the electricity which is not even being consumed could have diverted to the state’s grid load capacity , which further would have lead to the prevention to the similar problem. 

“We have requested the Bhakra Beas Management Board to increase generation so that uninterrupted power can be supplied to all consumers,” said PSPCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director A Venu Prasad . He also said that the shortage is due to the paddy transplantation season and the peak summer.
