Chandigarh: Present Governor of Punjab & Administrator of Chandigarh Banwari Lal Purohit resigned from his post on personal reasons before the general elections. However his resignation wasn’t accepted. On 27th july his resignation was accepted by the union govt & Governor Assam Gulab Chand Kataria has been appointed in his place.
Arun Sood ex Chandigarh BJP President & ex Mayor today called on administrator Banwari Lal Purohit to thank him for his services for the city.Sood was accompanied by three former district BJP presidents, Nominated councillor Satinder Sidhu, Manu Bhasin & Ravinder Pathania.
Later Sood told reporters that Banwari Lal Purohit is a thorough gentleman & an honest person to the core. He selflessly served the citizens of Chandigarh & didn’t tolerate corruption at any level.
He is a very religious person & during his tenure Sri Ram Katha was observed for a week & Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Gurpurab were celebrated at Raj bhavan. On Guru Arjun dev Ji’s martyrdom day he organised a free sweet water shabeel and even distributed cold & sweet water to common citizens with his own hands outside Raj bhawan.
As a Governor of Punjab he left an indelible print of simplicity as he never used State Govt ‘s helicopter for any official visit, he visited every part of the State by road.
Sood gave the best wishes to the outgoing Administrator and said, “The city will miss him & prayed to God for his healthy & long life.”
