Gujrat: Three workers died of suffocation in an illegal coal mine in Surendranagar district of Gujarat. Police gave this information on Sunday. An official said that a case of culpable homicide has been registered against four people in this case and efforts are being made to arrest them. An official of the Muli-Muli police station of the district said that the victims Laxman Dabhi (35), Khodabhai Makwana (32) and Viram Keraliya (35) were digging in a mine near Bhet village in Thangadh taluka of the district on Saturday when they died of suffocation.
It is being told that when the three people were working for the respective accused, they did not have helmets, masks or other safety equipment. All these people were being asked to dig a well. During this time, they suffocated due to the release of poisonous gas and all three died. At present, their bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The matter is being investigated.
A case has been registered against Jashabhai Keraliya, Janak Aniyariya, Khimjibhai Sardia and Kalpesh Parmar, the official said. He said the bodies of the workers have been sent for post-mortem. Earlier in February, three workers had died due to poisonous gas released after an explosion of ‘gelatin’ sticks used for an illegal mining operation in the district.
