Chandigarh, May 16, 2024. Senior leaders of the Indian Overseas Congress held a press conference at the Press Club, Chandigarh on Thursday. Mohinder Singh Gillijn, President, Indian Overseas Congress USA, Kamal Dhaliwal, President, Indian Overseas Congress UK, RC Sharma IOC Canada, Charanjit Moudgil IOC Estonia, Gurpreet Sobi IOC USA and Simranjot Singh IOC Finland made a direct attack on the Prime Minister.He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused him of ruining the economy, weakening democracy and endangering the socio-cultural fabric of the country.Highlighting the BJP’s vendetta system, Mohinder Singh Gillijn, President, Indian Overseas Congress USA, expressed his anger about the electoral bond scheme, calling it a scam. When the scheme was launched, The PM had claimed it would clean up the political system, but the BJP government hid details of the number of donors and donations received through electoral bonds before it was struck down by the Supreme Court.

When the data was made public, it became clear that a company, after winning a government contract, gave crores of rupees to the BJP through electoral bonds the very next day. When CBI or ED investigation was instituted against such companies giving donations through electoral bonds, the investigation was stopped. It was just give a donation and take the money.

He also said that tainted leaders of other political parties including BJP are getting clean chit by ED in all their corruption cases. BJP lashed out at the government for making fun of the Global Hunger Index in which India’s situation has been described as serious and there is a need to provide free ration to 80 crore families.

Addressing the media, Kamal Dhaliwal, President of the Indian Overseas Congress UK, criticized the ruling government and said, now that Modi’s guarantee is failing, Modi has turned into a dangerous narrative of Mangalsutra, Muslims and Mutton politics . The Prime Minister is playing cheap politics which is based on two fear mongers.

This is a low level politics, in which people’s emotions are being played in the name of religion so that social brotherhood is destroyed among the common people. If you interpret their words then Muslims are coming to loot you and insult your women. Prime Minister Modi is holding Mangalsutra in his hand. Because he is scared, he is drowning. He has no real agenda except Hindu-Muslim politics.

Dhaliwal also raised the issue of unemployment and inflation. He said that the unemployment rate among the youth is 40 percent and about 60-65 percent of the unemployed are educated. Inequality, youth unemployment, commodity inflation and household debt are at all-time highs. Despite promises, the unemployment rate in recent years indicates that not enough jobs have been added over the past 10 years.
Other senior leaders also said that India is the fifth largest economy but the per capita income is lower than that of many smaller countries. The rich are becoming richer, and the poor are becoming poorer. India has fallen one place from last year in the recently released Henley Passport Index for 2024. Indian passport is ranked 85th.
