Punjab: Husband living in America, wife hanged in Batala, case filed against seven people

In Batala’s village Kot Majlas, a married woman committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan. On the other hand, the maternal side of the deceased has been accused by the in-laws that it was not a suicide but a murder due to dowry. On Monday, the police of Qila Lal Singh police station took the dead body in their possession and registered a case against seven people, including the husband of the deceased. The deceased has been identified as Jaswinder Kaur (22) resident of village Kot Majlas. The woman got married about a year and a half ago. In this regard, Lavpreet Singh, brother of the deceased Jaswinder Kaur, resident of village Varpal (Amritsar), told that his sister was married on 20 March 2020 with Malkit Singh, a resident of village Kot Majlas. His brother-in-law Malkit Singh has been in the US for nearly seven years and is a green card holder there.

Lovepreet Singh alleged that her sister’s in-laws used to harass her for dowry. Late on Sunday night, she got a call from her sister’s in-laws that Jaswinder Kaur had committed suicide by hanging herself in her room, when she reached her sister’s in-laws village Kot Majlas, her sister’s body was lying. When he took his sister to the doctor, the doctors declared her brought dead.
