Rudrapur: The outbreak of eye flu has increased in the rainy season. The number of patients in the district hospital has almost doubled in a week. More than 40 patients are reaching here daily for treatment of eye flu. The doctor says that viral conjunctivitis is a common infection. This causes redness from inflammation of the inside of the eyelids and the clear membrane that covers the white part of the eye. It is also called pink eye.
District Hospital’s Ophthalmologist Dr. Praveen Srivastava said that if proper care is taken, eye flu patients can recover in a week. Red and swollen eyes are symptoms of viral conjunctivitis. Burning or itching is felt along with watery or sticky substance coming out of the eyes. Eyes become sensitive to light. Crusts form on the eyelids in the morning. He told that eye flu spreads by coming in contact with secretions coming out of the eyes of infected people.(HB)
