Will Uttarakhand Govt cancel Madarsas?

There is an uproar in the state over the cancellation of Madrasa Board in UP, playing with the future of thousands of children.

Dehradun – Presently 416 madrassas are running in Uttarakhand. Till now, 43186 children from these madrassas have become Munshi, Maulvi, Aalim Arabic Persian, Kamil, Fazil in different years.

Every year thousands of children are studying as Munshi, Maulvi and Aalim from the Madrasas of Uttarakhand, but due to Uttarakhand Board not giving it equivalent recognition to 10th and 12th, the future of the children is being played with. After the abolition of Madrasa Board in Uttar Pradesh, now Madrasa Board is in action in Uttarakhand also.

Board Chairman Mufti Shamoon Qasmi says that whatever has happened till now has happened in the Board, but now efforts are being made to give recognition at par with the Uttarakhand Board. Presently 416 madrassas are running in Uttarakhand. Till now, 43186 children from these madrassas have become Munshi, Maulvi, Aalim Arabic Persian, Kamil, Fazil in different years.

Surprisingly, the Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Board formed in 2016 is not recognized at par with the Uttarakhand Board. This is the reason why students studying in Madrassas are not getting the benefits even after doing Munshi, Maulvi, Aalim, Arabic and Persian.

After the Allahabad High Court canceled the UP Board of Madrasa Education Act 2004, terming it unconstitutional, the Madrasa Board is now in action regarding Madrasas in Uttarakhand also. Chairman of the Madrasa Board says that every possible effort is being made to ensure that Madrasas get recognition at par with the Uttarakhand Board. NCERT course has been implemented in madrassas. So that all the standards for peer recognition can be met.
Former Social Welfare Minister had ordered investigation

Many madrassas in the state are being given grants by the government, former minister Chandanram Das had ordered an investigation into such madrassas which are taking grants from the government but are not meeting the standards. The former minister had also ordered that the grants to those madrassas which run without the approval of the education department, would be stopped.

Haridwar district has the maximum number of 258 madrassas in the state. While there are 29 madrasas in Dehradun, 112 in Udham Singh Nagar, 14 in Nainital, one each in Almora, Pithoragarh and Champawat districts.
