Ranveer Singh starrer ’83’ has been one of the most awaited films, which was released in theaters on 24th December, 2021. Now director Kabir Khan is contemplating to release this film on OTT. He has talked about this in an interview. Even before the release, the film was offered by the big OTT platform but Kabir Khan wanted to release it in theaters only. The film has not been able to earn as much as the makers of ’83’ had expected. A week after the release of the film, theaters in Delhi were closed due to the rising cases of Covid.
In the interview, Kabir Khan said, “The film was ready with us 18 months ago. We wanted people to see it on the big screen because that’s how it was designed but at that time it wasn’t possible. We worked hard and waited a long time to release the film in theatres. But from the day of its release, the Covid cases started increasing in the country. After which the cinema halls in Delhi were also closed.” Kabir further said, “This film is based on the life of Kapil Dev. He consoled us and said – when we won the World Cup in 1983, we did not get the money but we got respect. You made this film to get respect, and you are getting that so you should focus on that.” If the restrictions increase, we will go on OTT. We do not know whether we will have to close the film from theaters tomorrow or will be given five to six days. If more restrictions are imposed, we will release the film soon on OTT.
