Film review: ‘SHERNI’ , starring Vidya Balan by Amit Masurkar

During the Corona Pandemic the cinema halls were closed from a long time but the OTT platforms has entertained the audience in every possible manner.
However, On Amazon Prime (OTT platform) Vidya Balan’s “Sherni” movie has been released.

The story took place in the forests of Madhya Pradesh, a small village who is threatened by the tigress.

Vidya Vincent ( Vidya Balan) as a forest officer who has not promoted in her profession in nine years . Moreover, After almost 6 years of a desk profile her new position comes up with multiple problems as well as challenges in the forests of Bijapur. Moreover, her husband is working in Mumbai and through video chat she told her husband , Pawan ( Mukul Chaddha) that she may resign her job because she feels no growth but her husband wants her to stay on because he himself is not sure about his job in Mumbai.

However, she seems to be the only women in the male dominated department and the colleagues as well as peers of her department tries to underestimate her but she is dedicated , determined as well as passionate about her work. She was supported only by Hassan Noorani (Vijay Raaz) , a Zoology professor in nearby college and some other local villagers including member of village committee and Forest Department Head.

The Tigress indentified as T12 and the department started hunting for the tigress. The most important factor for Vidya is to locate and catch T12 alive. However, She was pressurised by the politicians as well as her department boss wants to resolve the problem.

In the movie; Vidya Balan performance is remarkable yet it is so powerful. As, she portrayed her character with full determination and passion. Apart from her, All other characters performed very well and leaves a mark.

The screenplay by Aastha Tiku, take us into the magnificent jungle, that keep the sights and sounds as close to reality as possible. The actress too observed as no drama, no heroine-like entry.

The title of this film “SHRENI” is relatable as to Vidya Vincent as it is to the tigress T12 that she wants to save. As, she is tough as well as strong and passionate .The characteristics that Indian society or the cinema portrayed to the strong women.

Moreover, Rakesh Haridas’ cinematography and the effective background score by Benedict Taylor and Naren Chandavarkar, as well as the music by Bandish Projekt also leaves a mark as well as it is also remarkable and deserve to be mentioned.

Overall, it has been observed that the movie was liked by the audience and the performance of every character is on mark.
