Ramnagar: “Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) respiratory disease is spreading globally these days. This disease, like other respiratory diseases, is also reflected in the winter season with symptoms like the common cold and flu. Till date, human virus has not been confirmed in any patient in the state.” Dr. Harish Pant, Chief Medical Officer of Nainital district, told this and said that human metapneumovirus comes with symptoms of common cold. Also, it gets cured automatically within 3 to 5 days. There is no need to be confused or afraid about this. As a precautionary measure, he instructed to ensure the availability of sufficient isolation beds/ward oxygen beds, ICU beds, ventilator oxygen cylinders, and necessary medicines and materials, etc., in all hospitals for the treatment of influenza/pneumonia patients and adequate availability of doctors and nursing staff, along with instructions to do intensive monitoring of patients with symptoms of influenza-like illness (ILI)/severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) at the hospital and community level to prevent and stop all winter-related respiratory system diseases, including human metapneumovirus. Pant has also said that details of such patients should be mandatorily entered in the IHIP portal under IDSP.
