Kathmandu: Two buses carrying about 63 passengers were swept away in the Trishuli river due to a landslide on the Madan-Ashrit highway in Nepal this morning. This has created an uproar. Relief and rescue teams have reached the spot. Local people are also helping the administration to rescue the people drowned in the river. According to the information, a total of 63 people including the bus drivers were on board both the buses. This accident happened around 3.30 am.
According to information, the bus going to Kathmandu and the bus going from the capital to Gaur had 24 and 41 passengers respectively. It is also being told that three passengers in the second bus managed to jump and escape. However, the police has said that seven Indian citizens were also among the passengers in the bus.
According to eyewitnesses, due to darkness, both the buses, which fell victim to the landslide at around 3.30 am, were swept away in the Trishuli river. Indradev Yadav, Chief District Officer of Chitwan in Nepal, told ANI that we are at the spot and search operations are underway. ‘Our efforts to search for the missing buses are being hampered due to continuous rain. Let us tell you that heavy rains and landslides have been continuing in Nepal for the last several days. Many people have died so far due to this. Highways have been broken or damaged due to landslides at many places. In such a situation, people are facing problems in commuting. The rain is still not stopping.
Meanwhile, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal tweeted, “I am deeply saddened by reports of about five dozen passengers missing after a bus was swept away by a landslide on the Narayangarh-Muglin road section and the loss of property due to floods and landslides in various parts of the country.
