Jammu and Kashmir Police said that security forces were conducting a cordon and search operation after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in Modergam village of South Kashmir district. A police officer said that during this time the terrorists opened fire on the security personnel, after which the search operation turned into an encounter.

According to the police, the terrorist is hiding in a house located in a dense apple orchard. An army jawan was seriously injured in the firing by him, after which he was taken to the hospital, where he died. A new batch of more than 5,800 pilgrims has arrived in the morning for this 52-day long yatra. The place where the encounter is taking place is 63 km from one of the twin tracks in Pahalgam. The group of pilgrims visiting the Amarnath cave temple travels through this route. Usually they go through this route.
