Haryana: The campaign for the Haryana Assembly elections is going to end on Thursday, while voting will take place on October 5. Meanwhile, the BJP has suffered a major setback. Ashok Tanwar, who recently contested the MP election on a BJP ticket, has joined the Congress. Tanwar joined the Congress at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s rally, where former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda welcomed him by tying a turban on his head.
Ashok Tanwar, who attended the BJP candidate’s rally at 1:45 pm today and also tweeted about it, has now joined the Congress. The development came to light when Tanwar appeared at a Congress event. His sudden change has created a stir in political circles, and it could prove to be a big setback for the BJP.
Congress has confirmed Ashok Tanwar’s joining the party on its social media platform. Congress said, “The party has always raised its voice for the rights of the exploited and deprived and has struggled honestly to protect the Constitution. Impressed by this dedication of ours, senior BJP leader and former MP Ashok Tanwar has joined the Congress today. Welcome back to the Congress family, best wishes for the future.” This change can be an important political opportunity for the Congress.
Ashok Tanwar has a long association with Congress. In 1999, he became the secretary of NSUI and was its president in 2003. In 2009, he became an MP from Sirsa Lok Sabha seat on a Congress ticket and was the President of Haryana Congress from 2014 to 2019. However, in 2019 he left the Congress and joined the Trinamool Congress, then joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2022. Eventually he joined the BJP. In 2024, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Sirsa seat, but lost to Kumari Selja of the Congress. And now he has joined the Congress again.
