BJP fulfilled its promise by opening all four gates of Jagannath temple

Odisha: All four gates of the Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, were reopened for devotees on Thursday, June 13. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi fulfilled his election promise as soon as he assumed power. On this occasion, he offered prayers at the Jagannath temple. Balasore MP Pratapchandra Sarangi and other ministers were also present with him. 

After the opening of all four gates of the temple, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi said that we had proposed to open all four gates of the Jagannath temple in the cabinet meeting yesterday. The proposal was passed, and today at 6:30 am, I joined the ‘Mangala Aarti’ with my MLAs and Puri MP (Sambit Patra). For the development of the Jagannath temple and other works, we have proposed a fund in the cabinet.When we present the next state budget, we will allocate a fund of Rs 500 crore for temple management.” 

The newly elected BJP government of Odisha on Wednesday approved a proposal to reopen all four gates of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi told the media, “The state government has decided to reopen all four gates of the Puri Jagannath Temple in the presence of all ministers on Thursday morning. Devotees will now be able to enter the temple from all four gates.” 

The government has also announced a special fund of Rs 500 crore to take care of important issues related to the temple. Minister Suryavanshi Suraj said, “During the election, we said that if our government is formed, we will reopen all four gates of the Shree Jagannath Temple. All four gates of the temple are going to open today.A corpus fund of Rs 500 crore has also been announced for development projects.” 

After the COVID-19 pandemic, the previous BJD government had kept all four gates of the temple closed, allowing devotees to enter only through one gate. This was causing a lot of inconvenience to the devotees, and there was a demand to open all the gates. During the assembly election campaign, many BJP leaders, including Mohan Majhi, had promised that all the gates of the temple would be opened as soon as the BJP came to power.
