Central government declared 25th June as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’

25 June declared ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’, Home Minister Amit Shah informed, Emergency was imposed on this day in 1975

New Delhi: Modi government has taken a big decision regarding emergency. The government has now decided to celebrate the day of emergency (25 June) in the country as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’. This was the day when in 1984, the Congress government led by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared emergency in the country and put the opposition leaders in jail. Along with this, media was also curbed, the government used to decide what would be published and what would not. During the emergency, Indira Gandhi’s son Sanjay Singh forcibly sterilized thousands of people. The central government has described the emergency imposed in the country on 25 June 1975 as the day that strangled the soul of democracy. The Union Home Ministry has also issued a notification regarding this. The government says that this day will remind us of the contribution of those who have suffered the inhuman pain of the emergency of 1975.

The Home Ministry notification said that “Emergency was declared on 25 June 1975. Later, there was a gross misuse of power by the then government and atrocities and atrocities were committed on the people of India, whereas the people of India have strong faith in the Constitution of India and India’s strong democracy. Therefore, the Government of India has declared 25 June as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ to pay tribute to all those who faced and struggled against the gross misuse of power during the period of emergency. The people of India have recommitted to not support the gross misuse of power in any way in future.”

After issuing the notification, Home Minister Amit Shah said in a post on ‘X’- “On 25 June 1975, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, introducing a dictatorial mindset, strangled the soul of our democracy by imposing emergency on the country. Lakhs of people were jailed without any fault and the voice of the media was suppressed. The Government of India has decided to celebrate 25 June every year as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’. This day will remember the great contribution of all those who endured the inhuman pain of the Emergency of 1975.”

Shah wrote in another post- “This decision of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to honor the spirit of millions of people who struggled to revive democracy despite facing unspeakable oppression at the hands of the oppressive government. Celebrating ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ will help keep alive the immortal flame of individual freedom and protection of our democracy in every Indian, which will prevent dictatorial forces like Congress from repeating those horrors.”
