Grace marks for 1,563 students have been cancelled, and exams will be conducted again: Supreme Court

New Delhi: Today, students have got a big victory in the NEET UG scam case. In view of the irregularities in the NEET exam results, NTA has had to take a decision in the Supreme Court to cancel the grace marks of 1563 students and conduct the NEET exam again. A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta heard the case.

When NTA was questioned about 67 students getting 720 out of 720 marks, NTA said that the reason behind this was grace marks. NTA had said in its clarification that due to loss of time at some exam centers, a total of 1563 students have been given grace marks, due to which the marks of 44 students became 720. However, today NTA said in the Supreme Court that they are ready to cancel the grace marks and conduct the re-examination of these students.

The students who have been given grace marks by NTA have been given two options. These students can either appear for the re-exam on June 23 or proceed with counseling with the old score without grace marks. Candidates who are confident that they can perform well in the re-exam can decide to appear for the re-exam.

During the Supreme Court hearing on the petitions filed after the NEET result, NTA said that they are ready to conduct re-exams for 1563 students who got grace marks. Earlier, NTA had said that the problem was limited to the exam results of only 1563 students out of about 24 lakh students. The rest of the students have no problem.

The Supreme Court has again reiterated today that there will be no ban on the counseling of NEET UG. Students can participate in the counseling round. The NEET exam will be held again on June 23, and its result is expected to be declared on June 30. So that NEET counseling can start in July.NTA said that this decision is being taken to remove the fear of the students.

In fact, when the NTA, which conducted the NEET exam held across the country on May 5, released the result on June 4, there was an uproar across the country. The reason was that while 67 children got 720 out of 720 marks, more than this, 1563 children were given a grace mark. This grace marking was not given for 10, 20, or 30 marks but for 100 to 150 marks, due to which many children who were out of merit came in with merit, and it became difficult for the meritorious children to get admission in government colleges.

The Supreme Court has asked the NTA to cancel the grace marks of 1563 students and conduct the NEET exam again. The NTA will now conduct the re-NEET exam on June 23, the result of which will be released on June 30. After the release of the new result, NTA will have to prepare the merit list again, on the basis of which counseling will start on July 6.
