IMD has issued a warning of heavy rain for the next 5 days

Heavy rains likely in Northwest and Northeast India for next five days, Meteorological Department alert

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over northwest and northeast India over the next four to five days. The weather department said a low-pressure area currently lies over northwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining north Odisha-Ganga basin West Bengal coasts. A cyclonic circulation has formed over northeast Rajasthan, east Uttar Pradesh bordering Bihar and northwest Uttar Pradesh at lower tropospheric levels, the weather department said.

An east-west trough is extending from northwest Uttar Pradesh to the low-pressure area. These weather systems are likely to cause heavy rains at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan from June 29 to July 3, the IMD said. Heavy rains are likely over Chhattisgarh, Gangetic plains of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha on June 29-30, while Bihar is likely to receive rains from June 30 to July 2.
The IMD has also predicted very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh during this period.

In the Northeast, a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam will bring light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning and isolated heavy to very heavy rains over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during the next five days.

Extremely heavy rainfall is likely at some places over Arunachal Pradesh on June 29-30 and over Assam and Meghalaya on June 29. The weather department has also forecast heavy rainfall at some places over Saurashtra, Kutch, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and coastal and south interior Karnataka from June 29 to July 1.

Heavy rainfall is likely over Gujarat, Goa and Madhya Maharashtra from June 29 to July 3, while extremely heavy rainfall is likely at some places over Konkan, Goa and Madhya Maharashtra from June 30 to July 3. The IMD also said that the southwest monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and some areas of western Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. Conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon into western Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab and remaining areas of western Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu in the next two to three days.
