International Yoga Day 2024
International Yoga Day (IDY) is celebrated every year on June 21 to highlight its immense benefits for overall health and well-being. The event was started by the United Nations in 2014.
Prime Minister Modi proposed the idea of a global day dedicated to yoga during his address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2014. In December 2014, the UNGA declared June 21 as the International Yoga Day. Passed a resolution to declare ‘International Yoga Day’.

The United Nations describes yoga as an ancient practice that originated in India and combines physical, mental and spiritual elements. The word ‘yoga’ comes from Sanskrit, meaning to join or unite, signifying the integration of body and consciousness.

International Yoga Day Theme 2024: The Theme for Yoga 2024 is ‘Yoga for Self and Society’. Yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being that assists in restoring balance in our busy lives. On this special day, we celebrate its transformative power.
