Heavy rain causes major accident at Delhi airport, 1 person dead, 5 injured due to collapse of roof of Terminal 1
New Delhi: A major incident took place at Terminal 1 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport this morning. Suddenly the upper part of the roof collapsed. Due to this, vehicles got trapped there. Apart from the police, the fire brigade team has also reached the spot. So far 5 people are reported to be injured in this accident, while 1 person died in the hospital.
So far people have been injured in this accident due to the collapse of a part of the roof in Terminal 1, who have been admitted to Medanta Hospital. One was still trapped inside the car, which was later taken out and he was also undergoing treatment. He could not be saved during treatment and died. This has been confirmed by Fire Director Atul Garg. Rescue operation is being done on the spot. Many vehicles have also been damaged in this accident.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu reached the spot after the accident at Kinjarapu Airport Terminal. He has announced compensation for those who lost their lives and the injured in this accident. The minister said that Rs 20 lakh will be given as compensation to those who lost their lives after getting trapped under the roof of the terminal and Rs 3 lakh to the injured. The minister also said that the part that collapsed was built in 2009. The part inaugurated by PM Modi on March 10 has not collapsed.
The Civil Aviation Ministry has formed a team to investigate the accident at Delhi Airport Terminal One. This team will investigate the accident. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu himself is keeping an eye on the accident that happened this morning. Some cars have also been damaged due to the roof collapse.
DCP Usha Rangnani said that at around 5 am today, the shed extending from departure gate number 1 to gate number 2 outside Terminal 1 of IGIA (domestic airport) collapsed. In which about 4 vehicles were damaged and 5 people were injured and one person died. The condition of all the injured persons is stable. Teams of Delhi Police, Fire Services, CISF and NDRF are present on the spot.
Ram Mohan Naidu said that due to heavy rains, a part of the roof located outside the airport collapsed. I express my condolences to the people killed in this accident. Four people have been injured in this accident. They are currently being taken care of. As soon as we got information about the accident, we immediately sent emergency team, fire safety team, CISF and NDRF teams.
Let us tell you that it has been raining heavily in Delhi since early morning today. Due to heavy rains, waterlogging was seen in many parts of the national capital. Due to rain, traffic was affected in many areas, due to which traffic jams are being seen.
