‘PM Modi used to say that one person alone is stronger than all and now…’, Kharge taunts BJP in Rajya Sabha
After a two-day break, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha sessions resumed on Monday. The opposition cornered Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling BJP over issues like misuse of central agencies, NEET and Agnipath. Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said that PM Modi has embarrassed India.
During the discussion on President Draupadi Murmu’s address in the Rajya Sabha, Kharge said, ‘PM Modi has embarrassed India. They always used to call it a conceited alliance, they used to say that if Modi is there then anything is possible. But after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the arrogance of the BJP has been broken.’
Kharge also attacked the BJP over Modi’s remarks against the Congress on issues including redistribution of wealth, mangalsutra, reservation and mujra in election rallies.
Kharge also attacked the BJP over Modi’s remarks against the Congress on issues including redistribution of wealth, mangalsutra, reservation and mujra in election rallies.
Targeting PM Modi, he said, ‘Modi used to say that a single person is stronger than all. But today so many people are stronger than a single person. The elections have shown that the constitution of the country and the people are stronger than all.’
The Congress president said that thousands of NEET candidates were affected by the paper leak. He said that the government initially denied any paper leak, then later they gave a clarification and admitted that irregularities took place. The opposition leader also urged to cancel the Agneepath scheme.
He further said, ‘The President says that we will work together. But the words have been limited to speeches and not in action.’ Along with this, he also criticized the government for the arrest of opposition leaders and the alleged misuse of central agencies including the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation in an attempt to silence the opposition.
He said, ‘It was seen in this election that a big issue is to protect the Constitution. BJP said that it will amend the Constitution. But the elections proved that issues keep coming and going but the Constitution will flourish, democracy will survive, elections will keep happening and we will also be here.’
He said that the common people supported the opposition in this fight. They took a big step towards protecting the Constitution.
The Leader of Opposition also raised questions on shifting of statues of national leaders in the Parliament House complex. He said, ‘There was no meeting or prior consultation. It was done as if it was under a totalitarian regime.’
