New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing on Saturday said that more than one crore families have registered for installing rooftop solar panels under the ‘PM-Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme’ and termed it as “great news”.
PM Modi tweeted and said, “Registration is being done from all parts of the country. More than five lakh registrations have been done from Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
The Prime Minister asked those who have not yet registered to do so as soon as possible. He said that this initiative, along with ensuring energy production, promises a significant reduction in electricity expenses for households. He said, “It is set to promote lifestyle for the environment on a large scale and contribute to creating a better planet.”The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Modi had approved this scheme of Rs 75,021 crore to install solar panels on rooftops and provide up to 300 units of free electricity every month to one crore families.
