Moscow: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Russia. On PM Narendra Modi’s arrival in Moscow, Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov welcomed him. During this, he was given a guard of honor. Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day official visit to Russia. He will hold the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Prime Minister Modi will be in Moscow from 8 to 9 July at the invitation of President Putin for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. This is Modi’s first visit to Russia after Moscow invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Modi and Putin will discuss ways to further expand bilateral relations in diverse areas including trade, energy and defense at the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit on Tuesday. He had expressed confidence that the talks would yield concrete results in many areas.

This will be Modi’s first visit to Russia in almost five years. His last visit to Russia was in 2019, when he attended an economic conference in the Far East city of Vladivostok. So far, India and Russia have held 21 annual summits alternately. The last summit was held in New Delhi on December 6, 2021. Russian President Vladimir Putin came to India to attend the summit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a statement before leaving for Russia, the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia has grown further in the last 10 years, including in the areas of energy, security, trade, investment, health, education, culture, tourism and people-to-people contact. He said, I look forward to reviewing all aspects of bilateral cooperation with my friend President Vladimir Putin and sharing views on various regional and global issues.
Putin has visited India nine times as the head of state of Russia. Prime Minister Modi and President Putin last held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on September 16, 2022. During this, Modi had pressed Putin to end the conflict in Ukraine and said, today is not the era of war. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Modi has held several telephone conversations with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Let us tell you that the Indian Embassy in Russia said that according to the data of the Department of Commerce, bilateral trade has reached an all-time high of US$ 65.70 billion in the financial year 2023-24. Major items exported from India include medicines, organic chemicals, electrical machinery and mechanical equipment, iron and steel. Major items imported from Russia include oil and petroleum products, fertilizers, mineral resources, precious stones and metals, vegetable oil etc.
After completing his visit to Russia, Modi will leave for Austria. This will be the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister there in the last 40 years.
