Mumbai: Ratan Tata, the chairman of the Tata Group and a veteran industrialist, passed away on Wednesday night. The 86-year-old, who was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai due to ill health, bid farewell to the world. Just two days ago, he had dismissed any rumors about his health and had stated that he was fine. The political world has expressed grief over Ratan Tata’s demise.
N. Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, issued a statement on the occasion. He said, “We are deeply saddened to bid farewell to Mr. Ratan Naval Tata. He was an exceptional leader whose unparalleled contributions shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation. For the Tata Group, Mr. Tata was more than a chairman. For me, he was a mentor, a guide, and a friend.”
He further added, “With unwavering commitment, under Ratan Tata’s leadership, the Tata Group expanded excellence, integrity, and innovation. He always remained true to his moral compass. Mr. Tata’s dedication to philanthropy and social development has been impactful. Millions of lives, from education to healthcare, have been deeply touched by his initiatives and will continue to benefit generations to come. On behalf of the entire Tata family, I extend my deepest condolences to his loved ones. His legacy will continue to inspire us as we strive to uphold his principles.”
PM Modi expressed grief over Ratan Tata’s demise in a post on X. PM Modi said, “Shri Ratan Tata was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary individual. He provided steady leadership to one of India’s oldest and most respected business houses. His contributions went far beyond the boardroom. His simplicity, kindness, and unwavering commitment to making our society better endeared him to so many.”
PM Modi further stated, “One of the most unique aspects of Shri Ratan Tata was his passion for dreaming big. He was at the forefront of supporting causes like education, healthcare, sanitation, animal welfare. My mind is filled with countless conversations with Shri Ratan Tata. When I was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, I used to meet him frequently. We would exchange views on various issues. I found his perspective very enriching. This continued when I came to Delhi. I am deeply saddened by his passing away. In this hour of grief, my condolences are with his family, friends, and admirers. Om Shanti.”
Portable cold storage morgue has been arranged for Ratan Tata’s body. His body will be brought to the National Center for Performing Arts (NCPA) by 4 pm today for people to pay their last respects. Many industrialists, businessmen, actors and politicians may visit his house today.
Ratan Tata’s body has been taken to his house in Colaba and family members have also left the hospital. Special CP Deven Bharti has personally accompanied the family members with a convoy and ambulance. His body will be taken to Worli crematorium. This is the same place where Cyrus Mistry was cremated.
Earlier on Monday also there was news of Ratan Tata’s health deteriorating, after which a few hours later a post was shared from Ratan Tata’s own x (Twitter) handle. In this post it was written that thanks to everyone for worrying about me! I am absolutely fine. There is nothing to worry about, I have come to the hospital for routine checkup of diseases related to old age. But the country will be in pain that this time he could not return from the hospital, and left for his final journey forever.
Ratan Tata, a billionaire businessman and a very generous person, was 86 years old. He was born on 28 December 1937. He was the chairman of Tata Group from 1991 to 2012 and during this time he set many records in the business sector and took the Tata Group, one of the oldest business houses in the country, to great heights.
If we look at Ratan Tata’s personality, he was not only a businessman but also a simple and kind-hearted person. He will always be an ideal and an inspiration for the country. Ratan Tata considered even the smallest employees of his group as his family and left no stone unturned in taking care of them, there are many examples of this.
It is worth noting that Ratan Tata was made the chairman of Tata Group, a group involved in businesses ranging from auto to steel, in the year 1991 at the age of 21. After becoming the chairman, Ratan Tata took the Tata Group to new heights. He led the group till 2012, which was founded by his great grandfather a century ago. In 1996, Tata founded the telecom company Tata Teleservices and in 2004, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was listed in the market.
Before taking over the reins of the business house that started in 1868, Ratan Tata worked in Tata Steel, Jamshedpur in the 70s. When he understood all the nuances of the business, he made a strong entry into the group and on the strength of his hard work and ability, he took the domestic business to great heights. Ratan Tata took over the reins of the entire group in 1991.
