New Delhi: BJP Legislative Party leader Rekha Gupta took the oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Thursday in a grand ceremony held at the Ramlila Ground in the capital. The historic event took place in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena, who administered the oath of office and secrecy to Rekha Gupta and her cabinet. Along with Rekha Gupta, six of her cabinet colleagues also took the oath, including prominent names such as Pravesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravindra Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh, all of whom hold significant positions in Delhi’s politics.
Prime Minister Modi and Central Leaders in Attendance
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Ministers JP Nadda and Rajnath Singh, along with top BJP leadership members. In addition to these leaders, Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states were also present as witnesses to this historic occasion. Senior leaders including Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu were among those who attended.
Rekha Gupta’s Political Journey and Experience
Rekha Gupta, recognized as a grassroots leader in Delhi BJP, has had an active and struggle-filled political journey. Elected as the MLA from Shalimar Bagh constituency, Rekha Gupta has also served as the General Secretary of the Delhi BJP Women’s Wing and has been a member of the National Executive Committee. Her political path began through the student organization Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which is affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
After completing her studies at Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College, Rekha Gupta achieved her first major political success by becoming the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU). Later, in 2007, she was elected as a councilor from North Pitampura, where she focused on developing basic facilities like libraries and parks in the area.
Challenges Ahead for Her
Rekha Gupta’s appointment as the Chief Minister is part of a significant political strategy by the Delhi BJP, as the party aims to strengthen its female voter base through the appointment of a woman leader. Her work style, which focuses on solving grassroots issues and taking a pragmatic approach, could help the party move forward with greater strength. Her deep experience in Delhi’s politics and organizational capabilities could assist the party in solidifying its position.
However, Rekha Gupta may face challenges not only from political opponents but also from other ruling parties in Delhi, especially at a time when challenging the influence of the AAP government in Delhi has become crucial.
A New Direction for New Delhi
With Rekha Gupta becoming the Chief Minister, a new direction in Delhi’s politics may begin. This position is seen as a significant opportunity for the BJP, as the party has struggled with a lack of strong local support in Delhi. It is expected that under Rekha Gupta’s leadership, the party will focus on addressing the issues and problems of Delhi’s citizens, in order to strengthen its position in upcoming elections.
