The results of the by-elections held on July 10 on 13 assembly seats in seven states of the country have come. The India Alliance has won 10 seats, while the BJP-led NDA has got only two seats. At the same time, an independent candidate has won one seat.
While Congress has won four seats in the India Alliance, Trinamool Congress has won four, DMK and Aam Aadmi Party have won one seat each.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Mohinder Bhagat defeated his nearest rival and BJP candidate Sheetal Angural by a margin of over 37,000 votes in the by-election to Jalandhar West assembly seat on Saturday. According to officials, Bhagat got 55,246 votes while Angural got 17,921 votes. Congress candidate Surinder Kaur came third and got 16,757 votes.
TMC performed brilliantly in the by-elections held on four assembly seats in West Bengal. TMC candidate Krishna Kalyani has won the Raiganj assembly seat. He defeated BJP’s Manas Kumar Ghosh by 50077 votes. Congress’s Mohit Sen Gupta remained at third place by getting 23116 votes. Madhupurna Thakur of Trinamool Congress won the by-election held on Bagda assembly seat. He defeated BJP’s Binay Kumar Biswas by 74251 votes. TMC candidate Supti Pandey also won from Maniktala. Mukut Mani Adhikari of TMC won from Ranaghat South seat. He defeated BJP’s Manoj Kumar Biswas by 39048 votes.
The ruling BJP in the state has faced defeat in the assembly by-elections held on Mangalore and Badrinath seats of Uttarakhand. Congress has won both the seats. Amidst the possibility of upset in the last four phases on the Mangalore assembly seat, Congress’s Qazi Nizamuddin won. Qazi has won by 422 votes. After the counting of all 10 rounds, Congress’s Qazi Nizamuddin got a total of 31,727 votes while BJP’s Kartar Singh Bhadana got 31,305 votes. BSP candidate Ubedur Rahman remained at third place with 19,559 votes. BJP has also faced defeat on the Badrinath assembly seat. Congress candidate Lakhpat Butola from this seat defeated BJP candidate Rajendra Bhandari by 5,224 votes. Lakhpat Butola got 28,161 votes and BJP’s Rajendra Bhandari got 22,937 votes.
In the by-elections held on three seats in Himachal Pradesh, Congress won two seats while BJP won only one seat. In the by-election held on Nalagarh assembly seat of Himachal Pradesh, Congress’s Hardeep Singh Bawa defeated his nearest rival and BJP candidate K.L. Thakur by 8,990 votes. In the by-election held on Dehra assembly seat, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu’s wife and Congress candidate Kamlesh Thakur defeated BJP candidate Hoshiyaar Singh by a margin of 9,399 votes. BJP’s Ashish Sharma won the Hamirpur assembly seat by a margin of 1,571 votes.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has won the by-election held on Amarwada assembly seat in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh. Party candidate Kamlesh Pratap Shah has won this seat. In the polling held on July 10 in this area, 78.71 voters voted. Here nine candidates including BJP, Congress and Gondwana Ganatantra Party (GGP) candidates were in the fray. The BJP candidate got 83105 votes while the Congress candidate got 80078 votes. BJP has won by more than 3 thousand votes.
Independent candidate Shankar Singh defeated JDU’s Kaladhar Prasad Mandal by more than 8000 votes in Rupauli assembly seat of Bihar. In the assembly by-election held on Rupauli seat, independent candidate Shankar Singh defeated NDA-JDU candidate Kaladhar Prasad Mandal by more than eight thousand votes. After the counting of all 13 rounds, Shankar Singh got 68,070 votes, while JDU candidate Kaladhar Prasad Mandal got 59,824 votes and he lost by 8,246 votes.
The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the by-election held on Vikravandi assembly seat on Saturday by a margin of 67,757 votes while National Democratic Alliance (NDA) constituent party Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) remained in second place with 56,296 votes. During the counting of votes on Saturday, DMK’s Anniyur Siva was leading and the gap between him and his nearest rival PMK candidate C. Anbumani increased with each round. By retaining the Vikravandi assembly seat, the ruling DMK has continued its winning streak in the state since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
