Jammu-Kashmir: Two soldiers were martyred today in separate encounters with terrorists in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. Later, the security forces killed four terrorists, while four others are suspected to be hiding. After receiving information about the presence of terrorists at two different places in the district, the security forces started an anti-terrorist operation, after which an encounter took place with the terrorists.
The CRPF, Army and local police jointly launched a major attack targeting a house in Modergam village. During the attack, the soldiers came under heavy firing by the terrorists, due to which one soldier was martyred. It is believed that at least two terrorists were trapped there.
The situation worsened as soon as the army reached the village and a cordon was quickly laid to nab the terrorists. One soldier was injured in the initial firing and later died during treatment.
Another encounter took place in Frisal area of Kulgam. Drone footage shows the bodies of four terrorists killed in a fierce gunfight. One army jawan was martyred and another injured in the action.
The bodies of the terrorists could not be recovered due to heavy firing. Security forces suspect that two more terrorists are present at the encounter site.
The area has seen a rise in terrorist activities in recent times. Several encounters have been reported in various districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Just last month, security forces successfully gunned down three terrorists in Gandoh area of Doda district.
