Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud reprimanded the lawyer

CJI Chandrachud reprimanded the lawyer, said- how dare you ask the court master about my order?

New Delhi: Supreme Court Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud on Thursday reprimanded a lawyer, asking how he dared to confirm the details of the order written in the court from the court master.
The CJI said, “Will you come to my house tomorrow and ask my private secretary what I am doing? Have lawyers lost their conscience?”
This incident happened during an important hearing in the court, when the lawyer made this remark from the bench. This strict stance of the CJI underlined the court’s etiquette and awareness of procedures.

Supreme Court Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud warned a lawyer that he is still in charge of his post, although this time is limited. He said, “Do not try these strange tricks again, these are my last days in court.” This strict comment was made during the debate on the arbitration order. Justice Chandrachud is set to retire on November 10, and Justice Sanjiv Khanna is being considered as the next candidate for his position.

During his two-year tenure, Supreme Court Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud has paid special attention to maintaining decorum in the court. He has repeatedly reprimanded lawyers for bypassing procedures and rude conduct in the court.

This initiative of Justice Chandrachud has been important for maintaining the dignity and discipline of the judiciary, which has become the hallmark of his tenure.

The latest example of this was seen in the Supreme Court earlier this week when the CJI criticised the use of informal ‘ya’ (yeah) by a lawyer while addressing the bench. The Chief Justice sternly said, “This is not a coffee shop! What is this ya-ya.. I am very allergic to this ya-ya.. this cannot be allowed.”

During the hearing of the crucial electoral bond case earlier this year, Supreme Court Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud reprimanded a lawyer for not raising his voice while addressing the bench. “Don’t shout at me. This is not a Hyde Park Corner meeting, you are in court. If you want to move an application, file it on email. These are the rules of the court,” he said.
