Swacchta Abhiyan going high – Chandigarh may come back in top five

In 2014, Prime Minister Narendera Modi initiated a campaign called “Swacch Bharat Abhiyan” in an order to make our cultural rich nation a hygienic place to live.

In the beginning, only Chandigarh, Gandhinagar were the cities from entire nation who were numero uno and numero two position but then many cities chalked into the competition. Mysore, Indore and many other cities from southern and western India gained the position in 2015 and 2016. Eventually, in 2017, Indore was labeled as most clean city of India.

Chandigarh looses its stature of being most clean and green. Officials from the region said that Chandigarh is still onto the top spot in all the categories but it was behind in public opinion or feedback. This time Chandigarh uses awareness campaigning through various Councillors (soon will share the interviews). They have distributed and presented dustbins, parks have been maintained. So there after we have taken the opinion from various people of Chandigarh and acquired the information that 78% of total people agreed with development part. But, many are concerning that because of growing population of working class, Traffic Jams, pollution, Chandigarh will soon become a mini metro city. Which is making the most planned city an untidy too.

Chandigarh still tops in all the other factors associated with cleanliness, even sanitation has been improved a lot. If all these factors are combined than It will not be surprise to see Chandigarh coming back to its statures as cleanest and greenest city of the nation. Chandigarh in 2015 was toppling as most perfect city in the entire world by a BBC survey. Other cities like Lucknow, Jaipur, Mysore and Indore are other cities which have been improved a lot may also acquire in top five positions in Swachh Bharat Survey 2018.

Cleanliness should not be a drive that is to consider only for competition. It should be acted similar like religion practice. Dustbins should be used, toilets should be there in a region after ever 3 to 4 KMs. We need to take care few things to practice them in daily routines.

Hope in 2021, Our Nation will be clean and green because it will be the best tribute to the Father of our nation “Mahatma Gandhi”.
