New Delhi: The Supreme Court has given a big order regarding Delhi, which is facing water crisis amid scorching heat. The court has ordered to call an emergency meeting of the Upper Yamuna River Board (UYRB) on June 5 to deal with this problem.
Let us tell you that UYRB was formed in the year 1995. Its main job is to control the allocation of Yamuna river water among the beneficiary states. These states include Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and National Capital Region (NCR) Delhi. Apart from this, UYRB also monitors the review and progress of all projects including Okhla Barrage in Delhi.
As soon as the hearing of the case started, the vacation bench of Justice PK Mishra and Justice KV Vishwanathan asked the question that why can’t a joint meeting of all the parties be held? In response to this, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared on behalf of the Center and Haryana Government, said that UYRB is already considering this issue. He further said that the board has asked Himachal Pradesh to provide information about how much extra water they have. The Supreme Court said that in view of the emergency situation, a board meeting can be called tomorrow to deal with this issue. In response to this, Tushar Mehta said that it may be difficult to hold a meeting tomorrow.
