New Delhi: To curb paper leaks, the central government has implemented the anti-paper leak law in the country. The government issued a notification regarding this law late on Friday night. This law has been named Public Examination Act 2024 i.e. Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2024. This law was passed by the Parliament in February 2024. President Draupadi Murmu has approved this law. After the implementation of this law, there is a provision of punishment of three years to 10 years and fine of Rs 10 lakh to one crore to the culprits of paper leak. UPSC, SSC, Railway, Banking Recruitment Examinations and all examinations conducted by NTA will come under the purview of this law.

There is a lot of uproar in the country after the matter of rigging in NET and NEET exams came to light. In such a situation, NTA has also postponed the CSIR-UGC-NET exam. NTA says that this has been done due to lack of resources. This exam was to be held between June 25 and June 27. The next date will be announced on the official website of NTA.

After Gujarat and Bihar, now the strings of NEET paper leak related to Jharkhand are being seen. The burnt booklets of NEET paper recovered in Patna are suspected to have been leaked from Hazaribagh centre. EOU (Economic Offenses Unit) has demanded the original question paper from NTA to match the burnt booklets.

If a person or group leaks the paper with a complete plan, then there is a provision of 5-10 years of imprisonment and a fine of at least one crore rupees. If any institution is involved in the paper leak, then there is a rule to destroy its property and recover the entire cost of the examination from the same institution. There is also no provision for bail for the accused under this law. No officer holding a post lower than DSP or Assistant Commissioner can investigate under this law.
