New Delhi: The issue of same-sex marriage has once again reached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court will hear on July 10 the petitions seeking a review of the apex court’s decision in which same-sex marriage was refused to be legalized.
The matter will be heard by a five-judge bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Hima Kohli, BV Nagarathna and PS Narasimha on the review petitions.
Let us tell you that the hearing of the same-sex marriage case in the Supreme Court was held on October 17, 2023 last year. Then the Supreme Court had clearly refused to accept gay marriage as legal. Instead of giving any decision in this matter, the Supreme Court left it to the Parliament and the states of the country.
In October 2023, the court said in its decision that the court cannot consider same-sex marriage as valid, because it comes under legislative matters. Parliament and the states should decide this at their own level. At the same time, now the court is going to reconsider this matter once again.
Let us tell you that LGBTQ+ people keep protesting on the streets in the capital Delhi demanding legalization of same-sex marriage in India. These people demand that the Indian government should legalize same-sex marriage soon. A petition has been filed in the court regarding this matter. The case is also being heard.
