Udham Singh Nagar, 21 April 2024: 7.54 percent less voting in the Lok Sabha elections has given tension to the political parties. Till now, the trend of voting in Lok Sabha elections 2014 and 19 has been around 72 percent. This time the reduced voting percentage has forced all the election analysts to think. On the second day after the voting, people associated with political parties kept discussing the political gains and losses due to low turnout.
In the Lok Sabha elections 2014, 71.73 percent votes were cast in Udham Singh Nagar. The same trend continued in the next 2019 Lok Sabha elections also. A total of 72.12 percent votes were cast in the district. This time, while political parties were confident about increased voting in the elections, the Commission was also aiming at 85 percent voting.
As soon as the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections became effective, awareness campaigns were also conducted to increase voting on a large scale in the entire district. Here, when voting started on Friday, there was not much enthusiasm among the voters. Except for a few selected booths, there was hardly any queue at other booths. People kept coming easily and voting continued. When the figures came in the evening, the turnout was less than last time.
Now in such a situation, the fate of all the 10 candidates including BJP, Congress and BSP is sealed in EVMs but the low turnout has left a question before the political pundits. After all, what is the meaning of approximately seven and a half percent less voting?
People associated with political parties were seen continuously debating on this issue in shops throughout the day. The low voting in the district has put the political parties in trouble.
