In a historic decision, Uttarakhand will become the first state in independent India to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) from 27th January 2025. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the move, stating that the state has completed all necessary preparatory steps, including the approval of regulations under the Act and training of relevant officials.
The UCC will standardize laws governing personal matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption, ensuring equality for all citizens, irrespective of caste, religion, or gender. The state aims to provide equal rights and responsibilities for every individual, promoting social unity and cohesion.
Uttarakhand’s move aligns with the vision of a unified, developed, and self-sufficient India, as outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The implementation of UCC is seen as a step towards national integration and progress, contributing to a fairer and more just society.
The state government has assured that all necessary mechanisms are in place for a smooth transition, with trained officials ready to manage the changes. This initiative is expected to significantly transform the legal landscape, fostering equality, justice, and fairness for all.
By taking the lead in implementing the UCC, Uttarakhand sets a precedent for other states to follow in advancing unity and equal rights for all citizens.
