Uttarakhand, 26 Dec 2023: On Thursday, terrorists attacked a military vehicle at Bafliaz police station Mandi Road in Surankot tehsil of Poonch district. In which five army soldiers were sacrificed. Two brave men from the Garhwal division of Uttarakhand were Rifleman Gautam Kumar (29), a resident of Kotdwar in Pauri district, and Virendra Singh of Bamiala village in Chamoli district.
The mortal remains of Gautam Kumar and Naik Virendra Singh, who were martyred in the terrorist attack in the Bafliaz area of Poonch district of Jammu, reached Uttarakhand on Monday. The mortal remains were brought to Dehradun airport by army aircraft. The mortal remains of the first martyr were to be brought to Uttarakhand two days ago, but could not be brought due to various reasons.
Here the army gave a guard of honor to both the martyrs. At the same time, CM Dhami also paid tribute to the martyrs. Also consoled the family members. After this, the mortal remains of both were sent to their homes by army helicopter. As soon as the mortal remains of the martyrs reached home, there was chaos among the family members.
Gautam was posted in the 89 Armed Corps, while Virendra was posted in the 15th Garhwal Rifles. Virendra’s family lives in Roorkee, but his last rites will be performed in his native village Bamiala.
