Punjab ministers Harpal Singh Cheema and Harjot Bains arrived to meet the governor
Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema and Education Minister Harjot Bains met the state Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at Punjab Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh on Friday. During this meeting, Cheema has demanded the Governor to put an immediate stop on the approval proposal to give 10 acres of land for the new building of Haryana Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh.
He said that Chandigarh city was built by demolishing 22 villages of Punjab and when Punjab and Haryana were divided in 1966, as a temporary arrangement, Haryana was provided permanent place in Chandigarh to conduct its administrative and governance work, whereas Punjab has full authority over the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, while talking to the media outside Raj Bhavan after meeting the Governor, said that this is the biggest negligence of Congress, BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal, the brunt of which is being borne by the whole of Punjab today. Cheema said that for a long time, the Congress government in Punjab and the BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal government in the state were in power under the alliance. Despite this, the Congress and the BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal government in the alliance never raised this issue seriously before the Center about Punjab having full rights over Chandigarh. Today, the Central Government is promoting Haryana’s jurisdiction in Chandigarh as a part of conspiracy so that the rights of Punjab can be violated.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that he has submitted a memorandum in this regard to Governor Gulabchand Kataria and urged him to strongly put forward Punjab’s side on the proposal to build a new building for Haryana Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh. Cheema said that if needed, he will also fight a legal battle for this. He has also asked the legal expert of the government to make legal preparations regarding the arrangement made at the time of partition of Punjab and Haryana in relation to approving the new building for Haryana Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh.
