Dehradun, 9 March 2024: Many women including Padmashri Basanti Bisht were honored at the Nari Shakti Rashtra Shakti Samman ceremony held at Raj Bhavan on the eve of International Women’s Day. While honoring the women, Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Seni) said that the mother power of Uttarakhand is different from all others, their ability, talent and courage are commendable.

The Governor said, the role of women power is incomparable in family, society and nation building and development. Mother power in the country is showcasing its talent very well in every field. Her contribution is taking the country towards further prosperity and progress. Earlier, in the felicitation ceremony, the Governor honored women who have done excellent work in various fields.

In the field of art and culture, Padmashree Basanti Bisht, Empan girl Meenakshi Khati, in sports, weightlifting coach Hansa Manral, mountaineers Harshwanti Bisht and Tashi Malik, in journalism, senior journalist Jyotsna, for social work Shaila Brijnath, founder of Aasra organization and Principal Him Jyoti School. Ruma Malhotra, Principal in Education, Government Inter College, Rajpur Road, Dehradun, Premlata Baudai and Warden Kasturba Gandhi Girls School, Gangolihat, Pithoragarh Renu Sah were honored. The Governor honored everyone by wearing a replica of Gaura Devi and a shawl.

Meritorious girls also honored
The Governor also rewarded the girls who secured best positions in the Uttarakhand Board Examinations of 2023. The girl students were given checks of Rs 50,000 each. This award was given to Shilpi student of Tehri Garhwal, Himani student of Uttarkashi, Tanu Chauhan student of Udham Singh Nagar and Kumkum Joshi student of Rishikesh. Whereas four girl students studying in government institutions, Mamta Sajwan, Riya, Nija Sharma and Priyanka Kukreti were given scholarships of Rs 25,000 each. For their commendable work, 15 self-help groups were given Rs 21,000 each.
