Camera Traps Installed to Track Man-Eater Tiger in Corbett Reserve

Ramnagar: Following the tragic death of a young man at the hands of a tiger in the Sawalde area of the Bijrani Range within the Corbett Tiger Reserve, the Forest Department has started installing camera traps at the site to trace the tiger. In response to the incident, villagers who had been protesting by placing the body in front of the Sawalde Checkpost on the road ended their demonstration at 7 PM, following assurances that the tiger would be captured within three days.

In a statement issued late in the evening, the Corbett Tiger Reserve reported that Prem Singh (42), a daily wage laborer from Sawalde East village, had gone into the forest with his son and wife to collect firewood. His son and wife informed authorities that they were attacked by a tiger. Upon receiving the information, forest officials from the Bijrani Range promptly reached the site and recovered the body from the Kania Beat, Phooltal Block, compartment number 10.

The Forest Department, led by SDO Amit Kumar Gwaskoti and Bijrani Range Officer Bhanupratap Herbola, inspected the site and launched a combing operation under the direction of Deputy Director Rahul Mishra. Camera traps were set up to identify the attacking wildlife, and other necessary measures were being taken. The department has urged the villagers not to enter the forest for their safety.
