Almora: A bus full of passengers fell into the river near Marchula area of Almora district of Uttarakhand on Monday. There were more than 55 passengers in the bus. As soon as the information of the accident was received, the police-administration reached the spot. SSP Almora has reached the spot. SDRF team has also reached for the rescue operation. 36 people have been confirmed dead in the accident.
The bus was going from Kinath of Nainidanda to Ramnagar. As soon as the bus reached near Marchula, it fell into the river near Sarad Band. There was a lot of screaming as soon as the bus fell into the river. Some people died on the spot, while some people were thrown out of the bus and fell down. The injured people themselves conveyed the information to others. As soon as the information was received, the police and administration team reached the spot and carried out relief and rescue operations. The injured were taken to the hospital. 36 passengers on the bus died. While many people are injured.
The bus was a 40 seater. There were more than 55 passengers in the bus. Disaster Management Officer Almora Vineet Pal said that 36 passengers have died. The death toll may increase.
Kumaon Divisional Commissioner Deepak Rawat said, “The bus got stuck in a tree and stopped about 10 feet before the river. Many passengers fell out of the windows due to the shock while falling into the ditch.”
Most of the people on the bus were locals. Monday was the first working day after Diwali holiday. So the bus was full. Most of the people on board were locals. Police said that the bus belonged to Garhwal Motors Owners Union Limited. Initial investigation has revealed that the condition of the bus was very bad.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami directed to suspend the ARTO enforcement of the concerned area of Pauri and Almora. The CM has directed to give assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh each to the injured. Commissioner Kumaon Division has been instructed to conduct a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
The injured were admitted to Ramnagar Hospital. From there, the seriously injured were airlifted and shifted to Haldwani. Some of the injured were sent to Rishikesh AIIMS. A team of expert doctors was also sent to Ramnagar Hospital by helicopter.
PM Modi expressed grief over the accident in Almora. He wrote that my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the road accident in Almora, Uttarakhand. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in every possible effort for relief and rescue. The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the families of each person killed in the accident in Almora, Uttarakhand. The injured will be given Rs 50,000.
