Uttarkhand, 05 Feb 2024: There was snowfall again on Monday morning in Dhanaulti, Surkanda, Kanatal and Buranshkhanda areas of Chamba-Mussoorie fruit belt area. Tourists thoroughly enjoyed the snowfall. However, tourists faced problems as the Chamba-Mussoorie road remained closed for about two hours near Kanatal and Buranshkhanda due to snowfall.
At the same time, seven vehicles carrying passengers got stuck due to frozen snow on the Tuni-Chakrata-Mussoorie-Maletha national highway. Whom the ADRF team took to safe places.
Snowfall started in the tourist places Dhanaulti and Surkanda temple as well as in Phalpatti area from 6 am on Monday. As soon as the news of snow falling was received, the tourists confined in the hotel rooms came out and started having fun in the snow. Tourists staying in Mussoorie also left for Buranshkhanda and Dhanaulti. However, he could not reach Dhanaulti due to blockage of motor roads in Kanatal and Buranshkhanda due to snowfall.
The administration restored the road traffic at 11 am by removing the snow with JCB. Tehsildar RP Mamgain said, lime is being continuously poured to melt snow from the road. JCB machines have also been deployed on both sides.
In Chakrata, SDRF soldiers somehow pulled out vehicles stuck in snow and took 25 people to safe places. Most of the people trapped in the vehicles were tourists who had come to enjoy the snowfall.
On Monday morning, Chakrata police informed SDRF that several vehicles were stuck in snow 12 km ahead of Chakrata. They are not able to move forward. On receiving information, a contingent of SDRF personnel left for the spot with necessary equipment. Due to excessive snow accumulation on the road, the soldiers covered a distance of about three kilometers on foot to reach the stranded vehicles. Seven vehicles were stranded in the middle of the road. One by one, the soldiers brought all the vehicles to a safe shore.
